Welcome to AI PBL

Hi everyone! Here's what we'll work on together.

Does this sound familiar?

You ask AI to create a worksheet. Seconds later, it's ready. But then you start checking: Is it correct? Is it right for my students? Is the layout what I wanted?

You go back and forth, rewriting and correcting. Eventually, you've spent almost as much time as if you'd made it yourself.

Everyone tells us AI saves time. But often, it just shifts the work from creating materials to checking and fixing them.

Research in software development reveals a similar pattern: AI can dramatically increase production speed, with gains of up to 740% reported in the study below, but much of that gain disappears before finished work is delivered, where the gain is around 20%. Human review and validation become the new bottleneck. These figures describe software development, not measured gains in teaching.

And more output doesn't necessarily mean better output. AI can produce polished, generic materials that lack the depth, context and judgement good teaching requires.

But used well, AI can make our work genuinely better, not just faster. That's what this course is about.

An AI machine produces a flood of drafts labelled +740%. A teacher reviews them before useful materials reach pupils, labelled around +20%, illustrating the review bottleneck in the software study.

What we'll do differently

Week 1: Get better results from AI

Learn to tell AI how to work, not just what to produce. We'll build a repeatable process that captures your expertise and produces better results.

The first attempt might not save time. But once you turn successful workflows into reusable AI skills, the benefits start to compound.

Week 2: Create good project materials

Apply the method to real teaching and PBL tasks. Learn where AI adds value, how to combine workflows and how to test and improve AI outputs against your own quality standards.

Week 3: Improve your teaching routine

Step back and rethink how you work. Where can AI save time? Where could it enable better learning experiences? What should remain human?

Build your AI Value Map and explore how to turn proven workflows into reusable tools, skills or AI assistants.

What to expect

  • Three interactive live sessions of 45 minutes, with practical exercises and peer learning.
  • Two homework blocks, each with up to 20 minutes of video and 30 minutes of practice.
  • Your own AI workflows, built and improved throughout the course.

Our goal isn't to master one AI tool. It's to help you develop your own useful AI teaching assistant, grounded in your expertise and teaching practice.

Before our first class

  • Everyone (5 min): Complete the short starting-point questionnaire.
  • AI beginners (20 min): Explore the introductory materials on AI basics, prompting, privacy and responsible use.

No other preparation needed. Just come ready to experiment, share ideas and learn by doing.

See you soon!
