Know what’s allowed

Start with these four checks

  1. Is the tool approved for this task? Follow your school’s rules. Ask before introducing a new tool or connecting school files.
  2. May I share this material? Data-protection rules cover information that can identify someone. Check permission before sharing other people’s work, including protected teaching resources.
  3. What decision am I asking AI to make? Preparing a draft activity is different from awarding grades or deciding access to education. Those uses can fall under stricter AI Act rules and need appropriate institutional review.
  4. Who will check and use the result? You review classroom materials and retain responsibility for teaching decisions. Student use needs its own checks on permission, age requirements and the thinking students should do themselves.

The AI Act sets rules for AI uses. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) protects personal data. School policy tells you how to work within your setting.

For this course: use teacher-facing activities and fictional student examples. We will prepare and check drafts. Student AI accounts, automated grading and systems that infer students’ emotions are outside our activities.

If you are unsure: stop before uploading or connecting anything and ask your school’s AI, IT or data-protection contact. Bring the task you want to do and the kind of information involved.
